5 Things I Learned From Being Sick
A lot of people don't know this but becoming sick can actually teach you things. I used to just see my sickness as an inconvenience but after looking back on all the times I was sick I was able to analyze areas of my life that definitely needed improvements. Below I outlined 10 Discoveries I've made from being sick.
- Creativity: I noticed that when I'm sick I come up with all kinds of ways to try and improve my health for a quick fix so that I can get back to work. It is also a great way to trace back your steps for reasons that could have possibly got you sick such as not bringing your umbrella on a rainy day, eating those expired chocolates, or yelling your voice out that it gave you a sore throat (this actually happened once).
- Prevention: After identifying the reason, my mind easily shifted to how I could avoid getting sick for a future day because lets face it no one wants to get sick, at least no sane person. It can be something as simple as wearing a mouth mask to a room that you know people bring a lot of bacteria into or cleaning your hydroflask before mold starts to grow again.
- Appreciation: Surprisingly, when I get sick I start to appreciate all the days I was healthy and start to believe that those were honestly the best days of my life because I could breathe fresh air without a runny nose. I could eat cold foods and drinks without worrying about a sore throat. I can also appreciate all the days I didn't get sent home from work or school from catching a fever. I learned to love my appearance more because honestly no one is attractive when their sick in fact most people find it uncomfortable to be near you or breathe the same air as you when you're sick. An important one is appreciating social interaction. I truly started to appreciate every conversation I had with a person when I was healthy compared to when I'm sick.
- Mental Strength: I noticed when I'm sick my pain tolerance increases besides the amount of increase in my weight loss from staying in bed more. I can easily stay focused on online assignments and watching videos when I'm sick (when I don't have a runny nose).
- Music Selectivity: When I have to stay home, I noticed I pay more attention to music and choose more songs that help to calm my mind and be present with myself.
In the end, health is a priority and I hope these discoveries help you see the bright side of any sickness you may experience. Stay positive and get better everyday!
