How to Stay Healthy in Pharmacy School
I have been a pharmacy student for 2 years now and am about to reach my third year. Through this post, I wanted to share some thoughts to possibly help prospective pharmacy students as they consider or begin transitioning to pharmacy school. These tips will help you on a personal level so that when it comes to your external course load you will not feel too overwhelmed and still take care of yourself and live a healthy life.
- Monitor your unhealthy addictions.
- If you are coming into pharmacy school with any sort of unhealthy addictions such as sleeping late, caffeine overdose, procrastination, relationship issues, Netflix binging, or gaming addiction I can definitely say you are doing yourself a disservice. Pharmacy school is stressful enough and adding on previous unhealthy behaviors can be detrimental to your success.
- Keep it simple.
- You don't have to buy the most expensive house or school supplies to feel satisfied in pharmacy school. In fact, learning to spend only on items you'll need such as food and water and sometimes clothing will make you feel more comfortable in pharmacy school. Overspending is the last thing you want to worry about keep a budget to make sure you only take care of the simple needs.
- Studying can feel like a lot of time but it's important to break it down to easily learn concepts that you can easily understand. Don't waste time on information you will most likely not be tested on.
- Learn to say no.
- In pharmacy school, the opportunities are endless with various organizations and events occurring every week. If you feel like you are falling behind on your studies or have already planned out how you wanted to spend your free time for the day don't be afraid to say no to nonsense and yes to giving your time back to yourself and your happiness. Remember you made the decision to go to pharmacy school for yourself and not anyone else.
- Create Content.
- In pharmacy school, you will notice you spend a lot of time sitting down and consuming lecture content spending less time working on actually creating cool things. This is the reason why many of my classmates resort to side hustles or indulge in their hobbies. It's important to find a helpful medium for yourself to put things out into the world. Owning a blog or Youtube account may help with these things.
5. Sleep
- This may seem like a no brainer but it is absolutely essential to your success. If you put in hours throughout your week studying you will feel less regret when it comes to exam season and have less of a chance of depriving yourself of needed sleep.
