What I Learned From Online School During Quarantine
It is currently Finals week which is definitely a first for me now that all of my final exams are taken online. I'm sure it is probably not only myself who is experiencing this. I found this experience surprisingly manageable. It kind of speaks volumes about how stressful in person exams truly are too. We come to class to take paper exams with the pressure of our classmates and teachers. Humans truly are resilient beings and it makes me very reminiscent of the past.
I learned that it is a more important time than ever to master the art of digital communication. Family and friends are miles away so finding small ways to keep in touch is essential for maintaining those relationships.
Less drama and discontentment. I noticed when school life was normal I found myself engaging in or falling into some form of drama at my school whether it be through friendships or my clubs leadership councils. I found that I'm less jealous of other people and learned to be more satisfied with the things I have in my life currently including my intelligence. I don't need to compare my grades to other people or stress about test grades because there's almost no one around to do it with.
I have more time for myself now that classes are online and school work is done on my own time. I don't have to stress about meeting up for a group project because it is all done via Zoom. I learned that when I'm alone my energy levels can easily be drained by the end of the day since there's no one at home to really talk to since we're all far away. I guess everything has an upside and downside.
Some struggles I've encountered is maintaining a daily routine and making time for exercise. Being stuck at home all day, can cause you to easily neglect these essential activities.
I have learned to try new skills such as cooking, selling, and calisthenic exercising. I probably would make less time for this if life was normal in all honesty. These are basic activities however that we must learn to do as humans, probably not so much learning how to sell but still persuasion is a good skill to possess.
Even though my classes are online, I have disciplined myself to start studying way ahead of time in order to avoid pulling any all nighters or sucking away my energy on exam days. I still feel like there is still much to learn and it is still more important than ever to remain adaptable.
