Why Childhood Nostalgia Benefits Adulthood

A lot of people are so focused on the future. When I reach this age or get this job, I'm going to get this award or this position. However, we never really stop to realize how far we've come and how big of an impact the experiences we've had as a chid helped create the person we are today!

I have recently found some creative aspects that have grown from watching childhood shows specifically Codename: Kids Next Door (KND). I just finished a couple drawings and created a podcast episode after rewatching many of the old episodes I found myself also staying calm from all the craziness going on in the world during these times of coronavirus and protests. I guess, I use it as an escape back to normalcy of simpler times when life was a lot easier to do things we enjoy. I remember turning on the TV after a long day of school just to relax or escape the fact that I had to do homework.

What is the benefit in all of these childhood activities? To my surprise, I found that it works as a good substitute towards video game addiction. I would definitely say a formidable rival to the constantly growing video game world is childhood nostalgia. Video games capitalize on nostalgia and new content too but not as well as it was in our childhood. The best type of childhood would be the cartoons and shows we used to watch as a kid. Therefore, if your looking to replace an unhealthy habit of negativity or an activity that may be detrimental to your health definitely try rewatching your childhood shows.

Games you play as a kid with friends in your backyard or going out onto the crosswalk on your bike can never be replaced. One of my most memorable childhood memories was learning to ride a bike or playing pretend with my siblings in the backyard. These memories can never be erased or probably never relived at our current ages, but who says imagination should stop when you're old. One of the coolest parts of being older and more experienced is the ability to create combinations of new material with past nostalgic material in a beneficial way. An example would be going outside and just daydreaming to clear your head or riding your bike in your new neighborhood because of course you're honestly never too old to ride one!

I would definitely say to people looking to make progress in their careers, health, or study habits. Turn your head back to your past childhood nostalgia. You will never know what you may unearth or how precious your life truly is. Try to remember the good days though and less of negative ones for even more benefit. There is no point in looking back on the negative aspects of life when we're already in a state of fear and crises.

I hope you find something helpful here and as the director of the KND once said "Stay Young."
