How To Deal With Negative Thoughts
As I have been working towards preserving my mental and physical energy, I soon realized just how difficult this can be especially when the school year and monotonous job duties seem to be slowly piling up. A lot of these mental challenges can be caused by the opinions of others. Believe it or not just about everyone has struggled with the fear of what others opinions are of them at some point. It is part of what makes us human and has also played a critical role in our survival. When you recognize that you're having a negative thought, you have essentially flipped a switch in your brain. A switch of realizing that you haven't been present with yourself and you've been essentially present somewhere else in a time and place that is non-existent. It is a place that contains all your fears and worries, you've been stuck in your own head for too long.
Staying in that giant crainum all day can easily lead to not always the most positive but more often than not the most negative of thoughts. Negative thoughts can be harmful to a certain degree causing us to doubt ourselves and fear sharing our own personal thoughts and ideas with others. You may be familiar with asking yourself questions such as, is it worth it? What will they think of me? What if no one likes me? What if everyone is against me? What if no one cares? An important aspect of a negative thought is that there is an extremely high chance that no one cares, but the number of people who actually do care will show it or may be just as shy as you to show it. Being stuck in your head all day will do this to you on a regular basis when you begin focusing on other areas of your body and what is currently around you at the moment you quickly feel a sense of peace.
There are only so few days in this life so just say what you need to say and be at peace with it. No regrets, no back talk, know that you chose your path, you put yourself out into this position in the world because you know deep in your heart that you aren't average and that you aren't the sum of your thoughts. You are something greater, you are unique and you possess one of the most special aspects of the human existence which is life! Don't let negative thoughts dim the fire you have inside of you.
If I fail, then it's the end of the world and I will not try again. If this is true then, humans were not meant to try again, and if so, they would have let dinosaurs and meteors lead them to extinction a long time ago. However, we are of high intelligence. We can create amazing ideas, inspire teams, bring visions to life, and create cool things that may inspire a generation! Be something bright and let it show through your thoughts. Don't let others dim your light. Squash those negative thoughts before they make you feel small!
Action Step:
As described above, negative thoughts don't rule you. Your perception of the events that occur in your life are the things that will greatly shape you as a person so respond wisely. Have events and things to do in your life. This is extremely valuable because there is no point in dwelling on the past or difficult events. If you truly do feel yourself overwhelmed, you always have the choices of listening to music, going for a walk, or just getting out of your own head through meditation to clear your mind.
The number one sure way to get yourself outside of your head would be to just call it a day and get some much needed sleep. I personally have found that meditating before sleep eases bad dreams and allows me to enter a sleep state at a faster rate. An activity I've really enjoyed when it comes to decreasing negative thoughts is looking at positive quotes or listening to music to get myself out of my head. A great quote that very much sums these ideas up, "Make sure your worst enemy doesn't live between your two ears" - Laird Hamilton.
I hope you find something helpful here.
